Cleanings

This procedure is very important for the maintenance of healthy teeth and gums. For most patients cleanings are done every 6 months. However, if you have periodontal disease or are in braces and have poor oral hygiene, it is important to be seen for cleanings every 3 to 4 months. Bacteria, plaque, and tartar are removed from teeth and under gums and your teeth are polished with a prophy paste to remove any stains.

Your dentist or hygienist will also administer a fluoride treatment that is one of the major protective factors to manage and prevent tooth decay occurrence and its progression. Professional applied fluoride is effective in the reduction of tooth decay by thirty percent. Fluoride treatments in our office are not limited to children. Adults benefit from topical fluoride immensely. Some patients with high tooth decay rates, root exposure or tooth sensitivity will also be given a prescription for fluoride use at home.
