Tooth Whitening

Are you feeling that your pearly whites are not so pearly anymore? That can happen to any of us, for any number of reasons. The good news is that you don't have to live with a smile you're less than happy with. Tooth whitening can restore your teeth to their earlier brightness. As we age, the outer layer on our teeth, known as enamel, is worn away, eventually revealing the darker layer, known as dentin, underneath. Our teeth may also become discolored from smoking, from drinking coffee, tea, and wine, and even from taking certain medications as a child such as tetracycline.

We can provide you with a tooth-whitening system that you can use at home. The at-home products come in a gel form that contains hydrogen peroxide. The gel is placed in a custom-fitted mouth piece, created from an impression of your teeth. The mouthpiece is worn twice a day for 30 minutes -- usually for a couple of weeks. The length of time can range from one week to one month depending on how much whitening you need, or desire. This procedure can whiten the teeth up to seven shades, depending on the severity of the stain. Yellow and brown-stained teeth respond to the whitening product better than those that are grayer in shade.
